The myth of finding balance

That’s right.  The myth of finding balance.  Aren’t we all supposed to juggle absolutely everything at the same time while trying to find “balance”?  I’m here to tell you that is impossible.

Balance is defined as: a state of equilibrium; an equal distribution of weight; something used to create equilibrium (Thanks, Dictionary.com!)

“Living a happy and fulfilling life is all about finding balance”. How many times have you heard that? Meanwhile, women are being overwhelmed juggling various responsibilities such as work, family, and relationships.  it is important to prioritize every aspect of your life and ensure that each one is given the attention it deserves without burning out. How can we do that if finding balance is a myth?

Harmony

It is time to strike a perfect chord between all the areas that matter to you.  This is what being in harmony means.  Discover your innermost values and making choices that align with them will pave your path to a harmonious life. Take a step back, reflect on your thoughts and emotions, and establish priorities and boundaries that honor your aspirations. Believe in yourself and your ability to decline invitations and take the time to care for yourself. Keep adapting and persisting.

The idea of finding harmony in life rather than seeking balance appeals to me because of the definition of balance.  Having everything equal: work, kids, chores, etc. feeds the myth that women can do it all and do everything perfectly.  But striving for harmony will take the pressure off.  Sometimes work will take more of my time and focus.  Sometimes my children need more of my focus.  Adapting how I think about these things allows me to prioritize rather than running on the hamster wheel of “Balance”
